A carpet in a treatment room or laboratory is judged by what happens when something spills. This tile carries an impervious PP backing beneath the pile that stops fluid reaching the subfloor, so a dropped sample, IV bag or cleaning bucket becomes a mop-up job rather than a flooring replacement.
Polypropylene is the reason this works. The backing does not absorb water, so it will not swell, soften or delaminate when a floor is washed down repeatedly, and it resists the acids, alkalis and solvents that routine cleaning and spillage bring with them. Because the polymer takes up no moisture, there is nothing for mould or mildew to grow on. It is also light, inherently stain resistant and economical — which is why PP is widely used as a backing fabric and as the substrate for impervious membranes. That makes this construction a natural fit for wet areas, warehouses and back-of-house zones where humidity is constant and budgets are tight.
The face is solution dyed nylon, so the tile tolerates routine clinical detergents and stays colour stable under a disinfectant cleaning regime.

How does the impervious PP backing handle a large spill?
Fluid stays above the membrane instead of soaking into the backing — polypropylene takes up no water, so nothing penetrates the tile body. The spill can be extracted and the affected tiles cleaned or swapped. Each tile is a separate module, so a contaminated square is replaced rather than the whole floor, and because the backing will not swell or delaminate from the exposure, the surrounding modules are unaffected.
Can the tile be used in wet rooms?
It handles the wet conditions that come with clinical and laboratory work — repeated wash-downs, disinfectant regimes, spills left standing for a while — and the non-absorbent PP backing is what makes that possible. It is not intended for continuously wet floors.
