Most soil in a building walks in through the front door. This 50x50cm barrier tile is built as the first line of defence: a 700 g/sqm solution dyed nylon pile with a scraper structure that lifts dirt from shoe soles and takes moisture out of the tread before it reaches the main floor.

Arranged as a walk off zone of several tile rows inside the entrance, the matting captures the grit that would otherwise be ground into the office carpet, which is the single biggest cause of premature wear and dull appearance in lobbies and corridors. Because it is a tile, it can be lifted and cleaned without disturbing the floor beyond.

A practical rule is three metres of walk off zone, which is six rows of 50cm tiles. That length lets a normal walking stride shed soil and moisture before the main carpet begins.
